Reconstructive eyelid surgery is an increasingly common procedure. It may be used to correct certain medical issues or to improve physical imperfections, including those caused by aging. In either case, it is imperative that an experienced eye surgeon performs reconstructive eye surgery.
Dr. Geoffrey M. Kwitko, M.D. F.A.C.S. has more than 31 Years of experience performing reconstructive eye surgery in Florida. As a skilled practitioner, he guides patients through every step of the procedure – from initial consultation through recovery – and is prepared to handle even the most complex cases.
What to Expect from Reconstructive Eyelid Surgery
If you or a loved one is considering a reconstructive eyelid procedure in Florida, it is important to understand what to expect. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is typically an outpatient procedure, meaning that you will return home the same day.
Before beginning the procedure, your surgeon will inject numbing medication into your eyelid and administer medication intravenously to help you relax. If you are having procedures performed on both the upper and lower lids, your surgeon will begin with the upper eyelids before working on the lower lids. Most procedures are completed within two hours. You are then moved to the recovery room where you are monitored before being sent home to recuperate.
Common temporary side effects from surgery may include:
- Blurred vision
- Double vision
- Light sensitivity
- Numb, puffy eyelids
- Redness where the cuts were made
- Slight pain or discomfort
- Swelling and bruising similar to “black eyes”
- Watering eyes
Dr. Kwitko and his seasoned eye surgery team provide compassionate care throughout your consultation, procedure and follow-up appointments.
